Installation and Dedication of the New Historic Marker at the Museum

  • Madeline Island Museum 226 Colonel Woods Avenue La Pointe, WI, 54850 United States (map)

Please join the Wisconsin Historical Society for a brief program followed by lunch as we dedicate a new historical marker at the Madeline Island Museum. As part of the 1854 Treaty Day commemoration activities on Mooningwaanikaaning, a new historical marker that shares the Anishinaabe migration story will be unveiled, and there will be remarks by Wisconsin Historical Society and Tribal leaders.

This is the first of two new markers. The second marker, to be installed next year, will continue the story of the history of the island.

For those who plan on visiting the Madeline Island Museum, don't miss the 2023 seasonal exhibit Convergence featuring works by seven Anishinaabe artists including Valaria Tatera, Leah Yellowbird, Karen Savage-Blue, Karen Goulet, Terri Hom, Ramona Morrow and Rita Vanderventer.  Museum admission is free for Tribal members during Treaty Days weekend.

Contact the Madeline Island Museum at 715-747-2415 or madelineisland@wisconsinhistory.org with any questions.
